Demand for affordable housing is likely to increase in tandem with Oman’s population,
dominated by a high-proportion of young people. Even though one in every five
Omani families in Muscat and North Batinah own homes, there is a shortage of
affordable rental accommodation in Muscat.
In addition to the construction of 12,000 affordable homes as part of the 8th 5-year
plan (2011-15) there are plans for prime residential projects in Muscat.
